Maninder hospitalised after alleged suicide bid

Former cricketer Maninder Singh, recently arrested for allegedly possesing narcotics, was admitted to a private hospital in an alleged suicide attempt.

NEW DELHI: Former Test-cricketer Maninder Singh, recently arrested for allegedly possesing narcotics, was admitted to a private hospital early on Saturday after he slashed his wrists in an alleged suicide attempt.

Police, however, did not confirm whether it was a suicide attempt or a case of accident as claimed by his friends and family members.
  
''Maninder was admitted to the Shantimukund Hospital by his neighbour in Mausam Vihar locality in Preet Vihar area of East Delhi,'' said DCP (East) Ajay Chaudhary.

''We have not spoken to the doctor yet but we'll be able to reach a conclusion only after knowing the nature of the injury,'' the DCP added.

''Maninder is presently out of danger but still in the operating theatre. Nothing can be said about the incident as Maninder is not in a position to make a statement,'' doctors said.

Police received a call at about  1: 00 am after the former test spinner was brought to the hospital in a critical condition with both wrists slashed.

Maninder, who is presently out on bail, was arrested on May 23 for allegedly possesing 1.5 gms of cocaine along with associate and friend Siam Siddique by the Narcotics Branch of Delhi police.
