A heated argument between a small-time police informer and a history-sheeter led to the death of the latter, after he was allegedly assaulted by the informer’s family members in Vile Parle early on Tuesday morning.

The injured police informer, 52, has been identified as Laxmi Lahoor, while the deceased has been identified as Mohan  Tikekar, 28, both residents of Janata Chawl in Vile Parle. The incident took place around 2am, when Tikekar, who was drunk, had a heated argument with Lahoor and allegedly assaulted her with bamboo sticks.

“When Lahoor’s son (name withheld) saw the incident, he reported it to his uncles Shyam Naidu, 28, and Ashru Naidu, 32. They then assaulted Tikekar with bamboo sticks and stones. Tikekar’s wife, Aarti, told the police about the assault.

The police reached the spot and rushed Tikekar to Cooper Hospital, where he succumbed to his head injuries,” said API and investigating officer, Prakash Bacchav of Vile Parle police station. He added that Lahoor was admitted to Holy Spirit Hospital and her condition is critical.

Since 1996 Tikekar has been involved in around six cases of robbery, theft and assault.
Police sources claimed that Lahoor was a small-time police informer and had given several tip-offs to the police, leading to the arrests of some small time robbers.
