SHANGHAI: French climber Alain Robert scaled China's tallest skyscraper on Thursday without safety ropes, startling office workers as he climbed past in a red and blue Spiderman outfit.
Robert, famous for scaling the world's tallest buildings, was reportedly seen scampering up Shanghai's 88-storey Jin Mao Tower at about 25 seconds per floor without safety devices or ropes.
The 44-year old Frenchman completed the ascent clad in his trademark Spiderman costume, without headgear, and was immediately arrested after scaling back down the building.
The climb created a sensation on the Internet in China, as pictures of the ascent and Robert's arrest, some taken with mobile phones, were posted on websites.
Robert did not have approval to climb the building and had been refused permission to make the ascent in 2001.
The French daredevil was arrested trying to climb up Malaysia's 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers in March after reaching the 60th floor.
Two other people, both Chinese, have climbed the Jin Mao Tower already, the report said, adding the first climb was in 2001 and the second in 2003.
