NTPC will build plant in Assam

NEW DELHI: Power major NTPC Ltd has taken over the Bongaigaon thermal power station of Assam Power Generation Corporation Ltd (APGCL).

The company will now set up a new 750-mw power station on the same location.

NTPC on Wednesday signed an agreement for the transfer of existing infrastructure of the thermal power station with the Assam government and APGCL.

With the takeover, the country’s largest generator of power has made an entry into Northeast without any cost except for the development of the new plant with a 3X250 mw capacity. The state, which has a power deficit, in exchange gets a guarantee of supply from the plant.
