NEW DELHI: Jharkhand Mukhti Morcha supremo Shibu Soren presents a paradox -- though cooling his heels in Tihar Jail, he remained a VIP requiring police security for nearly six months after being jailed. What's more, the Parliament website still shows him as Union Coal Minister.

Convicted in a murder case in November last year and undergoing a life term, Soren continued to be on the VIP list till this month until the time the Delhi Police realised that he has been convicted for killing his personal secretary.

Delhi Police finally withdrew his security in second week of this month after failing to get any clear cut instructions from the Union Home Ministry whether the security to Soren needed to be continued or not.

The 63-year-old Soren was held guilty by a court on November 28 last year for his involvement in the killing of his private secretary Shashi Nath Jha 12 years ago.

Soren was found guilty for conspiring to kidnap and murder of 40-year-old Jha, who was aware of the details about the bribe received by Soren to support the minority P V Narasimha Rao Government in 1993.

The Delhi Police first sent a letter to the Union Home Ministry seeking instructions about the status of the security provided to the jailed Parliamentarian, a procedure that needed to be followed.
