PARIS: Serena Williams said on Friday her main motivation at the French Open starting on Sunday would be to find company for the trophy she won there in 2002.

"The French Open is my number one priority, simply because I only have one trophy and she's really lonely, so she really wants a friend," the former world number one, who has won all the other Grand Slam tournaments more than once, told a news conference.

"The other ones have friends so this is the only one that I have that doesn't have a friend. So for me, just on a personal level, I really want to do well because then I could have at least two of each so far."

The younger Williams sister, back in Paris after missing the tournament for the last two years, has won eight Grand Slam titles.

After a dip in form, the athletic 25-year-old was back at her brilliant best at this year's Australian Open, which she won by crushing Maria Sharapova in the final.

"I feel like I've had a kind of a rebound, confidence-wise," the American said.

"Winning a tournament is always a boost, let alone a grand slam. It makes you feel really good."

Williams dominated the women's game to win four consecutive grand slams from the 2002 French Open onwards but a knee injury restricted her to just four tournaments in 2006.

"The only difference is I guess I'm just more experienced but I'm having just as much fun and I'm really enjoying the game," she said.

"What's on my mind is just winning seven matches at Roland Garros, which would be completely awesome. That's my main focus."
