COIMBATORE: At least 27 people were killed and several injured when a compound wall collapsed on a state-run liquor bar at Angeripalayam near Tirupur, about 60 km from Coimbatore, on Wednesday.

Sixteen bodies have been removed so far from under the debris and rescue efforts were on to look for those possibly trapped in the rubbles, police said.

A senior police official put the toll as 20 while unconfirmed reports suggest it could cross 30.

The 12-foot tall wall, dividing a private company and the bar run by Tamil Nadu government-owned TASMAC, collapsed on the people who were either sitting in the bar or consuming liquor at around 7.45 pm, police said.
