PANAJI: Senior BJP leader L K Advani on Tuesday termed the UPA government at the Centre as a "government headed by a non-Prime Minister".

Commenting on the performance of UPA government on its third anniversary on Tuesday, he said, "For the first time in our Republican history, here is a government that is headed by a non-Prime Minister, run by a person who is not accountable to Parliament, and is surviving on life-support system provided by parties that behave more like the Opposition."

The senior BJP leader, who is in Goa to campaign for the party which is contesting on 33 seats, told reporters that he has not seen such a government which is utterly lacking credibility, confidence and cohesion.

Stating that UPA minister Manishankar Aiyar himself said "UPA is no more aam aadmi's (common man's) government," Advani recalled that MPs belonging to Left Parties had joined NDA in staging walkout in protest during debate on Budget.

Advani, quoting analyst, said that the statement by Aiyar may be a part of deliberate attempt to distance the party's supreme leader from the failures of Manmohan Singh's government, "so that at an opportune time, in near future, the nominal and nominated Prime Minister can be dispensed with".

"Congress party has surrendered itself to a slavish culture in which the reigning dynasty never does wrong and is never responsible or accountable for any failure," Advani alleged.

The senior BJP leader said that UPA has failed on ten major points including checking the steep rise in the prices of all essential commodities, which demonstrates UPA government's betrayal of the "aad aadmi".

Terming that UPA has failed to attend to the needs of internal security, Advani said its first action was to repeal POTA and since then, it has been adopting soft approach to deal with Jehadi menace.

"Its refusal to carry out death sentence on Mohammad Afzal Guru is proof enough that the UPA is ready to stoop to any level to pursue its politics of minoritism," he said.

"The government's failure on the internal security front is also evident from its inaction in respect of the massive and continuing infiltration from Bangladesh," the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said.

He said the entire failure of government had an inevitable outcome whereby Congress has seen its downslide in the recent elections.

"Barring Uttar Pradesh, BJP and its allies are on comeback trail. It started with Bihar, later Uttarakhand, Punjab and now it will be in Goa too," Advani said.
