NEW DELHI: Lawmakers are usually cold when it comes to debates on global warming, but even a rare discussion on the average rise in temperature ended up as a humourous monologue in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Kapil Sibal, who rose to speak about how earth is beginning to heat up, mocked at the opposition BJP members whose noisy protests made it impossible for him to carry on with the discussion.

"The discussion on global warming is appropriate in view of the heat generated by the BJP in the House... BJP represents carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The higher the amount of carbon dioxide, the more is the pollution in the atmosphere," Sibal remarked.

"When the level of pollution is this high, it is impossible for the house to survive," he said.

"More heat is generated by sloganeering," the Minister said, referring to the slogans by BJP over the controversial Sethusamudram project.

He quickly added that BJP represents not just carbon dioxide, but CFC (chloroflouro carbons - responsible for ozone depletion). "It is the most polluted and contaminated."

"I request sincere efforts should be made to reduce the level of these contaminants," Sibal added.

With BJP members refusing to calm down, Lok Sabha deputy speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal adjourned the House soon after.
