Looking good is a relatively easy enough task to manage first thing in the morning, but how do you continue to look great throughout the day especially when your work calls for it? For starters, stick to neutral colours with your makeup. More subtle, earthier tones will give you a professional edge and an air of confidence. Often, if a person wears loud colours in a professional environment, they aren’t taken seriously. So whatever you do, keep your look toned down. Let your ability to do your job well carry you up the ladder, rather than have your make-up turning heads for all the wrong reasons. As far as hair is concerned, keep it simple and relaxed. We’re talking soft layering and subtle colour. Basically, your hair should be easy to maintain with the least amount of effort.

So where do you start on the beauty quest? “If you have time in the morning, rub ice on your face before you apply your make-up,” says makeup artist Sukaina Ukani. “This helps the make-up last through the day.” Follow with foundation and loose powder. (Have dry skin? Use a hydrating foundation. For oily or combination skin, an oil-free foundation works wonders.) Pat away any shine with a blotting or tissue paper. You can still wear blush to work, just go easy on the amount you apply.

When you apply your mascara, apply enough to separate your lashes, giving them a natural appearance. “And stay as far away from liquid liners as possible. A kohl pencil is always a better option,” reveals Sukaina. Also keep your lips subtle. A non-transfer, smudge proof lipstick is a better than a glossy one. “The trick to make your lipstick last longer is to apply a little bit of foundation or lipliner all over your lips before you add the lipstick. That done, you can now go through your entire day safe in the knowledge that you will look absolutely fabulous all day long.
