WASHINGTON: As an American governmental and business delegation prepares to visit India, a senior Bush administration official has said doing business with New Delhi was slower due to regulations, despite a thaw in bilateral and trading ties between the two countries.

“We look to knock down trade barriers and ensure that pro-growth policies are being adopted,” said Assistant Secretary of Commerce David Bohigian said. Bohigian and a private business delegation of 13 American companies are beginning their visit to India on Wednesday.

“Really, the ability to conduct business in India is still slower because of regulations. So when I look at the overall relationship, it is positive. Our trading ties are stronger,” Bohigian said.

“In the energy sector market based pricing is probably the key challenge,” he said.
