Fans gather at Kanpur hospital to pay tribute to Bob

People in the industrial city of Kanpur on Monday morning made a beeline to the hospital where Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer was born in 1948.

LUCKNOW: People in the industrial city of Kanpur on Monday morning made a beeline to the hospital where Pakistan coach Bob Woolmer was born in 1948, soon after the news of his death in the Carribeans on Sunday made headlines.

In Kanpur, doctors and employees of McRoberts Hospital, where Robert Andrew Woolmer was born on May 14, 1948, held a condolence meeting.

Woolmer got an opportunity to visit this hospital on March 14, 2005 when Pakistan were touring India. He also visited the hospital in 1996 when he came with the South African team to India. Woolmer's sister lives in Kolkata.

The hospital management on Monday cancelled all the operations to be held at the operation theatre named after Woolmer.

The cricket fraternity in Uttar Pradesh expressed shock over the death of Woolmer. Chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav along with several senior cricketers expressed their condolences on Sunday.

Woolmer made his first-class debut for Kent in 1968.
