MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government on Saturday said there was no proof that four murders in the southern part of this city over the past three months were committed by the same person.

Home Minister RR Patil said this in the legislative council while replying to a question on the serial killings in south Mumbai by Neelam Gorhe (Shiv Sena) and others.

There were seven unsolved murders in the upscale area, which according to media reports, were carried out under similar circumstances by an alleged serial killer.

Police have arrested two persons in connection with these murders.

Patil, however, put the figure of deaths at four and said there was no evidence showing that the murders were the handiwork of the same person.
