BHOPAL: Giving a clean chit to its Assam MP M K Subba on the issue of his citizenship, the Congress on Tuesday ruled out action against him and claimed it was "satisfied with the documents provided by him" to prove his Indian nationality.

"I have personally verified the documents and details about Subba and nothing adverse was found," Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, who is in-charge of party affairs in Assam, told reporters.

Asked whether the party will take any action against the MP in the wake of a TV news channel's allegations that he was not an Indian national, Singh said: "The party is satisfied with the documents provided by him."

Singh denied having knowledge about one of Subba's brothers allegedly trying to bribe a journalist over the issue, as was reported by the TV channel.

"We don't know whether the bribe was offered...or (if) it was taken. Offering a bribe and accepting it, both are crimes," Singh said.
