VARANASI: BJP activists on Friday burnt posters and an effigy of Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan for allegedly carrying out a 'veiled campaign' for the Samajwadi Party through advertisements beamed on TV channels ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
The activists congregated at Malviya Ghat on the bank of the river Ganga and shouted slogans against Bachchan for defending the law and order situation in UP under Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
They burnt posters and an effigy of the actor, who is also 'brand ambassador' for the state, and alleged that he was
carrying out a 'veiled campaign' for the SP ahead of the Assembly polls.
The activists, led by Kaushal Kishore Mishra, said neither the law and order situation nor the economic development of the state were addressed to the satisfaction of the people by Yadav during his tenure.
