Langford-Smith bowls Ireland to easy win against Canada

ST AUGUSTINE: Dave Langford-Smith bowled Ireland to a comprehensive win over Canada in a World Cup warm-up match in St Augustine on Thursday.   

The fast bowler took four for 41 as Canada, who won the toss and chose to bat, were skittled for 115 in 32.5 overs.    Ireland replied with 116 for three in 26.5 overs to canter to victory by seven wickets.   

Langford-Smith took the new ball and removed Geoff Barnett and Abdool Samad in his first spell of two for 29.   

In his last three overs he dismissed Sunil Dhaniram and George Codrington in a burst that earned him figures of two for 12.   

Langford-Smith's new ball partner, fast bowler Boyd Rankin, offered steady support and took one for 26 in his full quota of 10 overs.   

The Canadians struggled to come to terms with the Irish pair's pace on a pitch that was lively early on, and consequently the wickets tumbled and partnerships were brief.   

Barnett's 27, which included five fours, was Canada's top score. Their only other double-figure contributions came from Ashif Mulla (11) and Qaiser Ali (17).   

Opener Jeremy Bray guided Ireland to victory with an unbeaten 41, while Andre Botha was 22 not out.   

Bray and Botha shared 45 runs for Ireland's unbroken fourth wicket.   

Ireland face Pakistan, West Indies and Zimbabwe in Group D in the World Cup which starts on Tuesday. Canada are in Group C and take on England, New Zealand and Kenya.
