Ravi Singh, an alleged international woman trafficker, who was arrested last November, has escaped from police custody recently. A senior police officer told DNA: “It is the first time we have booked a woman trafficker under the provisions of the MCOCA. In fact, we were looking forward to compliment our police officers and other officials responsible for the prize catch. Sadly, some of our own officers allowed him to escape.”

Three constables Jayant Kadam, Sanjay Pawar and BB Kanse, allegedly responsible for the lapse, have been suspended and charged for dereliction of duty. The officer said the constables were duped by Singh who had pre-planned his escape. The accused first refused to take food in prison. Later, he declined to move out of hospital, saying he was too sick to be moved out. He then reportedly gave police the slip from there.

The police nabbed two accomplices of Singh, identified as Amar alias  Omprakash Singh and Kavita Patel, who have been booked under the same provisions of immoral trafficking of women.

Singh, who runs a hotel in Uganda, came under the police scanner after three girls were rescued from his hotel and handed over to the Indian High Commission in Uganda.
