Man kills friend for rape bid on mother

Ashok Desai, 25, allegedly murdered his friend Hussain Shaikh after he learnt that he tried to rape his mother on February 14. Desai was arrested from his house by the Nirmal Nagar police on Saturday for stabbing his friend to death. He has been remanded in police custody.

The body of Shaikh — a history sheeter, who had cases ranging from theft to murder registered against him — was found at Bandra Reclamation on February 15. Shaikh, had coaxed Desai to let him live at his house in Bandra (E). The police discovered that Shaikh would often come home drunk.

“Desai appeared cold during the interogation. When we grilled him further, he broke down and confessed to the crime,” said a police officer.

“A fortnight before the murder, Shaikh came home drunk late in the night and tried to rape Desai’s mother. Aghast by the incident, he determined to kill him. He told us that Shaikh showed no remorse when confronted with the incident,” added the officer.

The police said Desai and Shaikh went to a bar on February 14. Desai took a drunk Shaikh to a deserted place at Bandra reclamation. Cashing on the opportunity, Desai repeatedly stabbed Shaikh with an iron rod on the chest and abdomen and fled the spot.
