Two skulls, several limbs, ribs and bones were dug out from the premises of Swami Vivekananda College in Sindhi society, Chembur on Thursday afternoon.

Fear gripped the area as rumours about a possible repeat of the Nithari killings did the rounds in the area. However, the rumours died soon after the cops rushed to the spot and spoke to the college authorities.

Senior police inspector, Chembur, PP Boparai ruled out any foul play in the case. "The college was built in 1985 and prior to that - during the 1970's, the ground used to be a graveyard, police said.

"The area was dug up to lay the foundation of a building. When the labourers dug the ground up to eight feet, they pulled out the skeletons," added Boparai.

"Members of the management were called in immediately, who then informed the cops," said Jharna Das, Principal Swami Vivekananda College.

The police will send the skeletons to the forensic laboratory at Kalina for performing scientific tests. "We have not registered a case as yet. After we receive the reports, appropriate action will be taken," added a police official.

Meanwhile, the college students were stunned at skeletons being recovered from their college premises. "We were in class when we learnt about the commotion. When we reached the spot a little later, we were shocked to see the skeletons. It was a scary sight," said Bhushan Shinde, a media student, who witnessed the bones being dug out.
