MIRZAPUR: Claiming that Congress and BJP were the parties of "touts and middlemen", Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday alleged that development works undertaken by governments led by these parties had only benefited their supporters and not the common people.

The governments led by these parties had undertaken development works only to benefit "their touts and middlemen and not general public", Yadav, who was here to lay the foundation stone of two bridges on river Ganga, said.

The Chief Minister claimed that the massive development works done by his Government have "unnerved" the leaders of these parties and that they were issuing irrelevant statements out of frustration.

Charging the Centre with neglecting the state, Yadav said that UP was on the path of progress through its own means.

"On the power front too, we have made progress and just a couple of days ago, power generation in the state was at its peak," he said.

Yadav, who has been under continued attack on the law and order front, cited the situation of Delhi, Indore and other such places to point out that UP had been peaceful in comparison.

The Chief minister said that the coming Assembly elections in UP would decide the course of politics in the country.

"A Samajwadi Party Government in UP after the coming elections will mean that it is an end of the UPA government at the Centre", he claimed.
