BELAPUR: Panic spread at the otherwise peaceful premises of Vashi Civil and Criminal Court on the second floor of Central Government Office (CGO) complex at Belapur on Monday afternoon after the court officials received a letter threatening a bomb being planted inside the court premises.

The concerned officials at the court told DNA that V G Mali, Assistant Superintendent, who is in-charge for receiving mails and dispatching letters, saw an anonymous folder with a letter written in Marathi saying that a huge stock of explosives was available with them (allegedly with those who issued threat) at their Nehru Nagar, Kurla area and that they can carry out explosion inside the court premises anytime.

As soon as Mali revealed this letter to the Principal Judge Vasant Patil and Joint Judicial Magistrates First Class (JMFCs) Dhananjay Nikam and V B Gavhan, the news of bomb threat spread like wildfire. The regular work at the court came to a standstill and the premise was vacated by the staff and lawyers on their own. Mali received letter at around 11.30 am.

Soon the court authorities informed about the letter to the police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) whose office is also located on the 8th floor of the same building. The building has nearly 40 different central government offices and departments and over 1000 employees work their on week days.

The concerned police officials immediately rushed to the Court and held discussions with the Principal Judge who reportedly handed over the copy of the letter that issued a threat of bomb explosion inside the court rooms. Later, a bomb detection squad also arrived on the scene.

However, the judges refused to comment saying that they are busy discussing the matter with the police and would react only later. Meanwhile, the city police are carrying out investigations.
