NEW DELHI: Centre has notified Delhi Master Plan 2021, paving the way for providing relief to thousands of traders in the national capital from the 'Damocles' sword' of sealing.

The 2021 Master Plan for Delhi was notified late on Wednesday, Union Urban Development Ministry sources said.

The MPD 2021 allowed mixed land use on 2183 roads, thereby allowing commercial activities alongside residences.

It also permitted about ten categories of professional to operate in residential areas, besides small shops of daily needs and services, as also nursing homes and pathology labs, schools, banks, gyms and coaching and tuition centres.

The master plan also allowed increase in Floor Area Ratio as well as one additional floor in residences, providing relief to lakhs of people in the city.

It also provided for multi-level parkings.

However, the plan that had been delayed and brought out after much drama and suspense was still to pass its final test before the Supreme Court.

Also the master plan, which provided a roadmap of Delhi's 'development' over the next 15 years, could yet see many amendments due to safety and environmental concerns, water and electricity crunch and Resident Welfare Associations and Town Planners crying foul.

The Union Cabinet was also in the process of regularising over 1,400 unauthorised colonies across Delhi.
