LONDON: India-born doctor Chitra Bharucha is among 23 persons short-listed for the Chairmanship of the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Bharucha is presently the acting chairperson following the resignation of Michael Grade.

Others in the fray for the post include Heather Rabbats, executive chairwoman of Millwall Football Club, Baroness Young of Old Scone, the Environment Agency chief executive and Liz Forgan, the former BBC Radio boss.

The interview for the 140,000 pounds a year job will be held in the coming weeks.

The appointment is expected in April after officials draw up a final list of names for Tessa Jowell, the Culture Secretary, who will then make a recommendation to the Prime Minister.
