MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena-BJP alliance has done better than expected in this week's Municipal Corporation elections in Mumbai and nine other places in Maharashtra, BJP general secretary Gopinath Munde said on Saturday.

"We received more support than expected and the Sena-BJP alliance has emerged clear winners in Mumbai, Thane and Nagpur", Munde, who is scheduled to assume his new position in BJP president Rajnath Singh's team.

Asked the reasons for BJP's tally in Mumbai municipal corporation elections going down by nine compared to the 2002 polls, Munde said `the Sena and not BJP, has lost more seats.

From 104 in 2002, the Sena has come down to 83'.

"Both the Congress and NCP had claimed that they will bag all the 10 Municipal Corporations. This has not happened. The Sena-BJP alliance has retained Mumbai corporation for a record third time in a row," Munde, recuperating at his Worli residence, after having fractured his arm in a road accident a month ago, said.
