Team for the first two ODIs against Sri Lanka today

MUMBAI: They left the fold not on the best of terms. Munaf Patel was accused of falsely declaring himself fit before the third and final Test against South Africa in Cape Town. Virender Sehwag needed to sort his game out.

After missing the series against the West Indies, both Sehwag and Munaf will be included when the selectors name a 15-man squad for the first two games against Sri Lanka on Saturday.

Indian team physio John Gloster conducted a fitness test on Munaf on Friday and will submit the report during the selection committee meeting. However, a senior member of the selection committee confirmed that Munaf will be included in the 15 that will be announced on Saturday.

“We will test his match-fitness. The committee has been informed that his fitness is satisfactory and he should be available for selection,” the selector said. Munaf underwent training drills with the Indian team on the eve of their one-dayer against the West Indies in Baroda and has been shaping up well.

Sehwag hit a century against Haryana in the Ranji Trophy after coming back from South Africa. He has also played for Delhi A and hit 49 off 46 balls. One who is likely to get the axe is opener Gautam Gambhir. He is expected to make way for Sehwag.

The thought process of the selection committee is to field the best 15 for the four ODI against Sri Lanka, beginning with the encounter at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on February 8. The team for the World Cup is to be announced on February 12.
