BANGALORE: An Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) 'Dhruv' crashed at Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bangalore on Friday, killing the co-pilot and injuring the pilot, defence sources said.

Squadron Leader Priye Sharma died in the crash. The pilot Wing Commander V Jetley sustained injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he has been kept under observation for 24 hours, an IAF official said.

The two were part of IAF's 'Sarang display team' and were on a sortie, along with three other helicopters, practicing for the Bangalore International Airshow, beginning next week.

"There was no mid-air collision", the official clarified.

The ALH, built by the Bangalore-headquartered Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, crashed near a runway, sources said.
