Sensex gain over 69 points as funds return to ring

The Sensex ended higher by over 69 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday on revival of buying by funds in index-heavy stocks led by bank and cement segments.

MUMBAI: The benchmark Sensex ended higher by over 69 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday on revival of buying by funds in index-heavy stocks led by bank and cement segments.
The 30-share index, Sensex, which had lost substantial ground in previous trading, spurted to close with a gain of 69.22 points at 14,110.46. Though, it touched the day's high of 14,156.46 and a low of 14,043.54 points.
In similar fashion, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty moved between 4098.25 and 4065.75 points before ending at 4096.15, revealing a gain of 30.05 points.
While the banking stock remained in lime-light after some segment majors came out with better quarterly profit earnings, cement shares attracted investors at existing low levels, after their fall on Tuesday on profit booking.
Most of the cement stocks plunged in previous day's trading following government decision to abolish duty on import of cement.
 
 
MUMBAI: Global cues helped the stock markets to marginally recover the overnight losses and the benchmark Sensex was up by over 89 points within five minutes of trading.
 
The Bombay Stock Exchange 30-share sensitive index opened slightly better at 14,069.61 from Tuesday's close of 14,041.24.
 
Later, it rallied further to a high of 14,130.53, a smart rise of 89.29 points.
 
On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), the S&P CNX Nifty also closed recouped by 24.35 points to 4,090.45 from previous close of 4,066.10.
 
Though the market showed some sign of recovery, outlook remained cautious ahead of the expiry of January series on Thursday, analysts said adding that a sharp spurt in world oil prices could dampen the sentiments later in the day.
 
Cement stocks, which suffered a sharp setback on Tuesday on cut in Customs duty, recovered marginally on fresh buying support.
 
On Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite Index finished in green while most of the Asian markets also displayed a firm trend early in the morning.
 
Among index-based counters, ACC, Bhel Bharti Airtel, Grasim, GACL, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, L&T, ONGC, Ranbaxy, REL, RIL, Satyam Computer, SBI, Tata Steel and Wipro showed marked to moderate gains.
