DUBAI: The fire at a high-rise tower in Dubai, in which four people were killed and nearly 60 workers, including 30 Indians injured last week, was due to 'human error', an official has said.

Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, the Chief of Dubai Police said on Sunday that the fire occurred due to human error; Gulf News quoted him as saying.

Director of Dubai Civil Defence, Brigadier Rashid Thani Al Matroushi said the fire was minor and a result of the burning of materials used in construction such as electric cables and plastic materials.

Workers' families, left bereaved in last week's high-rise fire, will get compensation amounting to 12 years' salary, the developers of Fortune Towers has announced.

Fortune Investment Group, which is developing the 37-storey building where four workers were killed, said its relief package also covers those injured in the fire last Thursday.

Workers with permanent disabilities will get compensation amounting to ten years' salary, those with major injuries one year's salary and those with minor injuries will be given three months' salary, it said in a statement.

If the duration of the recovery period extends beyond one year, the group will extend this support, it said.
