Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray on Sunday said that his party may consider forming alliances with all political parties in future elections, except the Shiv Sena. “There is no question of aligning with the Sena,” he said, while reiterating that MNS will fight the polls on its own.

Raj also released the list of the remaining 155 candidates for his party. He stuck to his party cadre, despite growing reports that many unhappy Sena corporators were talking about switching sides. Sanjana Ghadi, Sunil Kothare, Manish Dhuri, Bunty Mhashelkar, Anita Shinde along with two ex-Sena corporators Rajendra Laud and Shailaja Lande are the prominent MNS candidates from Mumbai.

Raj added that residents are disenchanted with the current political scenario. “This  feeling is especially strong among the youth and women,” he said. “There are also many first-time voters. The MNS is offering an alternative for people looking for a change. If these voters cast their votes, the situation can change overnight.”

Throughout the weekend, there were reports that many incumbent Sena corporators, who were denied tickets, were crossing over to the MNS. But Raj refrained from sending out mixed signals by offering them nominations. “There was no point in waiting as we had to give out our final list,” he said.

To counter the Sena song, which mocked dissidents like Congress Revenue Minister Narayan Rane and Raj, the MNS album focussed on the need to define the Maharashtrian spirit with Marathi and Hindi songs sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Shaan. Music director duo of Ajay and Atul stressed on getting back “the Raj” with notes such as Dil se gaa re and Manse gaa re.

As the party gears up to release its manifesto and party symbol on January 20, MNS is banking heavily on the album and Raj’s statements to become its main publicity weapon. Meanwhile, Raj refused to comment on Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s recent attack in Saamna. “Is there a need for a jugalbundi?” he scoffed. Like Mumbai, the party will be contesting all civic corporation seats at Thane, Pune and Nasik.
