MUMBAI: A controversial film based on bomb attacks 14 years ago that killed 257 will be released next month, reports said on Friday.

Leading entertainment company Adlabs, part of Reliance Industries Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group, will screen the docu-drama Black Friday on February 9.

The film was cleared for screening in India by the Supreme Court in Sepetmber 2006 following a challenge by one of the accused in the 1993 blasts who said it would affect criminal trials in the case.

A Mumbai-based special court ended India's largest terrorism case in December by finding 100 people guilty out of 123 accused after a decade of trials.

"This is a bold and brave story waiting to be told to Indian audiences," said Sunir Keterpal, chief operating officer (film distribution) Adlabs.

Black Friday was screened at the Locarno film festival in 2004 and several European countries.    A local tabloid journalist Hussain Zaidi adapted his book for the film's screenplay.

The 1993 attacks were carried out in revenge for Hindu-Muslim religious clashes several months earlier that were sparked by the 1992 demolition of a mosque by Hindu zealots in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state.
