MUMBAI: An empty beer can placed near the body of a 35-year-old man, found on the Anandibai Podar footbridge on Thursday, triggered speculation that the serial killer dubbed the ‘Beer Man’ has struck again.

The scene of crime is in the vicinity of Churchgate, an area around which three murders took place last month. In each case, an empty beer can was found near the body.

But D Kanakratnam, additional commissioner of police (south region), said it would be impossible to attribute the murders to a serial killer until the accused is arrested.

A police officer said the body had more than 10 injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon. The dead man was well built and 5 foot 10 inches tall. Police found a chewed portion of sugarcane near the beer can. The officer said the dead man seemed like a vagrant.
