Many heard the tussle, but none came to Aruna Kothawade’s rescue.
 
MUMBAI: The police have said the murder of Aruna Kothawade at Borivali could have been avoided had the neighbours come forward.
 
Kothawade, wife of deputy manager with Reliance Energy at Dindoshi branch at Goregaon, was murdered by unidentified persons at her Borivali residence on Wednesday. 
 
The police claimed though the neighbours were aware of the incident, no one came forward to help Kothawade.
 
“It was learnt that the neighbours heard the fight between the unidentified assailant and Kothawade, but they did not interfere. Had they come forward to her rescue, she would have been alive,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) Tukaram Chavan, adding that the tussle went on for  15 minutes inside the house.
 
Additional commissioner Chavan added that the watchman of the building did not maintaining the registry of visitors.
 
Meanwhile, police sources also claimed the assailant was seen frequently in the area and frequented Silver Oak Apartments near Poisar depot, where the victim stayed. The post-mortem report of Kothawade stated that she had received multiple stab wounds.
 
The police also said that primary probe suggested robbery was the motive behind the murder as cash and ornaments to the tune of Rs 26,000 were missing from the house. The victim’s husband was the first person to witness the body after returning home in the evening and informed the police.
