INDORE: A local court has issued notice to a petitioner, who moved an application seeking registration of case against former cricketer and commentator Ravi Shastri for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus by reportedly eating beef during the India- South Africa Test match in Johannesburg.

Local Bajrang Dal leader Manoj Malpani, in an application filed before Judicial Magistrate First Class RK Batham, sought that cases under Sections 295 A and 298 A of the Indian Penal Code be registered against the former cricketer as a television channel had reported about beef eating by him.

The applicant has been summoned on January 5 to record his statement.
