JAIPUR: Rajasthan will soon have an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) as the central government has given its green signal to open such an institute in the state. The state has been demanding an IIT for the last several years. Similar institutes will also be opened in Andhra Pradesh and Bihar.

“The central government has approved it. We received the information Tuesday. We will try to start it from the next academic session,” said Vasudev Devnani, state minister for education said Wednesday. The Centre has sought about 500-600 acres of land from the state for establishing the institution.

The state government has been asked to allot the land in the district having an airport. As per the demands Jaipur is being seen as the most suitable place for the institute. “We have to identify a suitable place and the site will be finally approved by a joint team of experts from central and state government,” Devnani added. IIT would be the second institute of the central government in the state after Malviya National Institute of Technology.
