DURBAN: Unidentified persons shot dead an Indian origin man in South Durban in front of his wife and two children.

Thirty-six-year-old Inbanathan Moodley of the suburb of Lotus Park in Isipingo town was shot dead in a hijacking incident just outside his home on Monday, police said.

The latest incident has sparked an outcry from the members of the community that violent levels are destroying innocent lives.

Moodley's wife Rhona said she could not believe that her husband was shot dead when he appealed to the hijackers not to kill him but just to take the car.

She said she was standing at the door to bid her husband goodbye Monday morning when a group of four men approached him.

"All of a sudden a car cornered him and he couldn't reverse further. At first we thought they wanted directions, but one of the men got out of the car and told him to get out. My husband shouted - take the car, but just leave me alone. Please don't shoot me. But they didn't listen," she said.
