India will keep its option open to conduct nuclear tests if the situation so warrants, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
NEW DELHI: India will keep its option open to conduct nuclear tests if the situation so warrants, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
Replying to a debate on the Indo-US nuclear deal, Mukherjee said India was sticking to unilateral moratorium on further testing and not accepting any "additional commitments" other than what has been agreed to in the July 18, 2005 joint statement and the March 2, 2006 Separation Plan.
Mukherjee said it would not have been possible for the then National Democratic Alliance government to undertake nuclear tests within months of its coming to power without efforts of the Congress government.
The minister said this was for the fifth time that the Indo-US nuclear cooperation has been discussed with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's participation.
