Don’t expect the coach to relent just because you did well the previous day. That’s the lesson VVS Laxman and S Sreesanth learnt on Sunday morning.

Laxman, unbeaten on 42, and Sreesanth, chief wrecker with 5 for 40, were a little tardy in joining the team bus that was to take the players from their hotel Sandton Sun to the Wanderers, ten minutes away.

But the team rules cannot, apparently, be bent for anybody. And the rule, a team official says, is that if 8:16am is the time for the bus to leave, then even if the players are standing in the foyer at that point of time, they will not be allowed to enter the bus.
Greg Chappell wasn’t going to let discipline be compromised even for his overnight stars. So, the bus left without them and the duo hired a taxi that took about 10-15 minutes to pick up its illustrious customers. Fortunately for them, both the team bus and the taxi reached the ground at the same time.
