Congratulations on one of the most important events of your life! Every bride has her own unique beauty that shines through on her wedding day.

Indeed, this is one day when all eyes will be on you. For such an occasion, looking ‘good’ just doesn’t cut it. You need to look once-in-a-lifetime fabulous.

Feeling the pressure? Fortunately, the one thing you can control on your wedding day is your bridal look. Your skin is the resonance of all that is emoting within you.

To ensure positively glowing skin on your wedding day, start a regimen of monthly facials.

This year, the trend is soft, feminine pinks that add a flush of innocent-looking colour to your face.

A well-applied base can even-out your complexion, cover spots and pigmentation and conceal dark circles.

A lightweight, water-based formula that’s also fragrance-free is de rigueur. Creamy, dewy skin can be achieved by using an illuminating foundation. Many foundations now have added sparkle as well.

This is one time you should explore the world of shimmers, glimmers and glows. There is nothing prettier than the angelic look of delicately shimmering highlights at your brow bone, cheekbones and décolletage.

Do ensure, however, that you don’t end up looking garish. Lipstick and eye shadow formulas are also packed with special light-reflecting pigments.

Lip colours for this wedding season are sheer with a hint of shine, but with more sophistication than past seasons.

If you prefer a dramatic look then choose shades such as plums, silver grays and smoky blues for eyes and deep lip colors such as burgundy, plum and soft red.

If you prefer to be a more natural looking bride then steer clear of heavy coverage creams and try and create a hybrid look of sun-kissed skin with colour.

Sheer foundation, a careful dusting of translucent powder, bronzer applied on cheekbones and temples help conjure up a back-to-basics bridal look. Bronzing powder is indeed another strong trend for bridal make-up.

Choose soft browns, pinks and peaches for eyes and sheer pink, peach or mauve for cheeks and lips.

Bridal hairstyles this season are no-fuss. While the traditional bun, updo or French chignon stay in favour, there are brides who are actually letting their hair down.

Soft cascading curls or poker straight ironed hair enhanced with a maang tikka are increasingly chosen by brides today.

Recounts TV actor Roshni Chopra, “The Aroma Garden at Versova started a one month regime for me to glow on my wedding day. It was a bit over-the-top but I got body massages, lymphatic draining for the face, full body polish, uptan, hair spas and facials. Despite my erratic shooting schedules, I made it a point to spend four hours with them twice a week and thoroughly pampered my skin.”

‘I have been taking all precautions’

TV actor Gurdeep Kohli, who is set to tie the knot this month, says, “I have been taking all precautions that my skin looks its glowing best on my D-day. From regular facials to hair and nail care, I am following a strict regimen and do it only because I want to look my best. I have been scouting through various shops for the best products and trends this season. So far, I am thinking of keeping my make-up as natural as possible but will co-ordinate it with my clothes.”
