Bomb threat in Mangalore-Coimbatore train causes panic

KANNUR: Panic gripped in the railway station here on Saturday after an anonymous caller told railway authorities that a bomb was set to go off on the Mangalore-Coimbatore train, till a search found it was a hoax.

The call was received at the railway station at 11.14 am as the train was approaching the station. The caller said the explosive was in the sixth coach from engine was would go off in 15 minutes.

Immediately, police assisted by bomb squad, asked the passengers to disembark from the train and carried out an intensive search, the sources said.

The train left at 12.15 pm after making sure that that it was hoax call.

They said the call was made from a public phone and they could not ascertain the identity of the caller.

A similar hoax call was received in Kanhangad in Kasaragod district on Sunday disrupting train movement and forcing security personnel thoroughly check all major trains passing through the area.
