BAGHDAD: Ten insurgents and a teenager were killed and a pregnant woman injured in a raid by US forces on a bomb-making facility north of Baghdad on Saturday that also uncovered massive arms caches, the military said.

US forces came under fire as they approached their targets near Taji, just north of the capital, and in the ensuing gunbattle 10 insurgents were killed, a military statement said.

"During the exchange of fire, one pregnant woman and one teenaged male were injured," the statement said. "She and the teenage male were immediately treated and subsequently evacuated to coalition medical facilities for further treatment." The teenager later died of his wounds. A search of the area revealed large caches of rocket-propelled grenades, machine guns, pipe bombs and anti-aircraft weapons, all of which were then destroyed in an air strike.

On Friday, another US raid in the nearby town of Tarmiyah destroyed another bombing making facility.

Baghdad was rocked on Thursday by a series of explosions in the Shiite district of Sadr City that killed at least 202 people and was likely the work of Sunni militants.
