NEW DELHI: Senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani made a startling claim before the High Court on Wednesday when he said it was a tall Sikh man who shot Jessica Lall and not his client Manu Sharma.

He claimed before the division bench of Justice RS Sodhi and PK Bhasin, who have been hearing the Delhi police’s appeal against the acquittal of the nine accused, that in course of the hearing he would disclose the identity of the man. He further said it was that Sikh gentleman who had called the police after the incident and told them that it was Manu Sharma who had shot Jessica.

Earlier Jethmalani had argued that his client Manu Sharma was not even present during the party on the night Jessica was shot despite several witnesses vouching for Manu’s presence in the party. The only Sikh man present during the party according to the police and witnesses was accused number three Tony Gill. However, Jethmalani denied it was Gill.

Earlier on Tuesday, the High Court dismissed a petition seeking transfer of the Jessica Lall case from Justice R S Sodhi’s court. Jethmalani, on behalf of his client Manu Sharma had filed the petition following media reports which said Justice Sodhi had been approached by the Sharma family.
