Woman killed, 3 injured in J&K blasts

JAMMU: One woman was killed and 3 others injured in two separate blasts in Jammu and Kashmir where security forces recovered 10 kilograms of explosives and other ammunition since Saturday night.

The woman, identified as 35-year-old Sharief Begum, was on her way home from a neighbouring village in Mahore of Udhampur district when she stepped on an IED that exploded killing her on the spot.

A labourer working with the General Reserve Engineering Force, Dhani Ram from Punjab, was also injured in the blast and hospitalised, sources said.

In Samba tehsil of Jammu district, two villagers Puran Kumar and Bashir Ahmed were injured on Sunday when a mortar shell crossed an army firing range in Dinga Ambh area and exploded near them.

They have been shifted to government medical college hospital in Jammu for treatment.

Security forces in Akhnoor area of Jammu were called in to defuse a shell found by a villager in his fields near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jordian area.

Meanwhile, during a search of Chungus forest belt in Rajouri district troops found a militant hideout from where they recovered 5 kg of explosives, one pistol, one magazine, one grenade thrower, 13 hand grenades, one radio set and 708 AK rounds.

From another hideout busted in Khanater Top area in Poonch on Saturday night, they recovered 2 IEDs weighing 5 kgs, 200 AK rounds, 13 pistol rounds, 6 Pika gun rounds, 7 grenades, 65 detonators and 2 mortar shells.
