AOL set to launch in India

AOL is set to enter the Indian market on November 15.

MUMBAI: AOL, formerly known as America Online, is set to enter the Indian market on November 15, according to the CyberMedia India Online Limited web site.
 
Having a subscription-based revenue-model AOL never really focused on the Indian market in spite of having a customer service and customer analysis center in Bangalore, it said.
 
The company launched a free service on September 12.
 
According to reports the web site quoted, AOL's European venture has not really taken off the way it was supposed to and the European operations could be hived off and sold.
 
A source told CIOL that the Indian venture will take on domestic biggies like Rediff, Indiatimes, and international players like MSN and Yahoo.
 
Apart from India, the company, it said, will target markets like Japan, China, Korea.
