JAMMU: In a move that will again create fear among women in Rajouri district, a Hizb-ul-Mujahideen area commander on Saturday threatened them to follow Islamic dress code of wearing a burqa and a veil while moving in public and warned they would be killed if they failed to comply, officials said.

They said a poster of ultra Alamgeer Hafiz Gazali had come up in Chokiya village of Darhal tehsil in this regard.

Giving them one week to comply, Gazali, much feared among people in the area, said throats of those defying would be slit. Women not wearing burqa were un-Islamic, he said in the poster.

Security agencies feel that the move would help ultras use veils and burqa to attack security forces and lob grenades and then escape easily. Due to high rate of casualties among their ranks, militants want to use veils and burqa to target security forces, sources said.

A similar dress code was imposed by Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in 2002, following which ultras had killed two girls and injured seven in acid attacks for defying its orders.
