Govinda kin arrested for assaulting minister’s PA

The nephew of the actor-turned-MP was arrested along with two friends for allegedly molesting the wife of a personal assistant of a minister.

Actor-turned-MP Govinda’s nephew Janmendra Ahuja, a film-director, and three others were arrested by the Juhu police on Saturday on charges of assault. The complaint was filed by Dayanand Chincholkar, personal assistant of Food and Civil Supplies minister Sunil Tatkare on Friday.

According to the complaint, four young men, including Govinda’s nephew, abused him and his wife, friend Rahul Patil and his prospective wife while travelling in a four-wheeler near the Cooper hospital in Vile Parle. The police said soon a scuffle broke out in which Chincholkar and his friend were injured.

“The four accused have been arrested and remanded in police custody till September 27 by the Bandra metropolitan court,” senior police inspector Pradip Shinde told DNA.

Sub-inspector Sunil Warude said: “The complainant and his friend went to the Nanavati hospital and were treated for their injuries. The young men said that they stopped and asked the complainant why he had abused them after which a fight broke out.”

Kirtikumar Ahuja’s father said, “The case is now before the court and it is not appropriate to say anything on the matter.”

Chincholikar said he had to take six stitches near his eye after the incident. He also said the four were drunk when the incident happened. The other three accused have been identified as Bilal Shahnaz Khan (film-maker), Poorav Jagdhish Mehta (electronic shop owner) and Gaurav Harvinder Bagai (electronic shop owner).
