The Indian leg of the band's sell-out 'Switch On' world tour kickstarts in Mumbai on October 5.

While India has invariably attracted aged rockers and has-beens, come October and one of the hottest properties in the rock firmament currently — INXS — will perform in Mumbai on October 5 at MMRDA Grounds and in Bangalore on October 7 at the Palace Grounds.

The 27-year-old band, after Michael Hutchence, have reformed and come back bigger and better, currently underlining that reputation with a sell-out 'Switched On' world tour that includes an Indian leg, titled 'The INXS India Switched On India Tour'.

Bubbling up from Down Under
It was on the very day that Elvis Presley died, that brothers Jon, Andrew and Tim Farris formed a band rather unimaginatively christened The Farris Brothers — thankfully evolving into the slicker INXS. The key vocals department would drive the band's fortunes through the next decade until the one behind it took his own life in the '90s. Michael Hutchence was one of those superstars marked out for greatness. But that is not to make light of the contributions of the Farris brothers Kirk Pengilly and bassist Garry Beers.

Life after Hutchence
Life tragically changed since November 22, 1997, when Michael Hutchence was found dead in a hotel room. Stunned, the band went into a sabbatical. Rock had lost one of its heroes. When it was time for INXS to scout for a serious replacement —'Rock Star: INXS' was formulated, a much hyped reality TV serial.

Canadian JD Fortune was crowned heir to Michael Hutchence's phenomenal legacy. Soon after 'Switch', the band's first original album in eight years was released.
