KARACHI: Pakistan arrested 25 Indian fishermen and impounded four boats on Saturday for entering its territorial waters in the Arabian sea, a Pakistani maritime official said.

The fishermen were arrested 50 km inside Pakistan's exclusive economic zone waters, said Maritime Security Agency official Atiq-ur-Rehman.

“One of our ships on a routine patrol spotted them. There were several boats and they were warned repeatedly to leave the area. Those who didn't were arrested,” he said.

Pakistan and India frequently arrest each other's fishermen for intruding into territorial waters despite a recent thaw in relations between the two countries.

Last September, Pakistan and India exchanged 587 civilian prisoners, most of them fishermen.

Rehman said the arrested fishermen had been handed over to the police for further action.
