CBI tells HC that it has sufficient proof to book the main accused in Mattoo case.

NEW DELHI: On the first day of the hearing in the Priyadarshini Mattoo case in the High court on Tuesday, the CBI told the court that it had sufficient evidence to book the main accused Santosh Singh.

Appearing for the CBI, Additional Solicitor General A Sara told the court that the trial court ignored two vital evidences that linked the accused to the crime.

According to the prosecution, the two strong evidences that the trial judge G P Thareja ignored while acquitting Singh were DNA test and the parts of helmet recovered from the scene of the crime. The prosecution informed the court that the DNA test had confirmed that the semen found on victim’s undergarment matched that of the accused and also the blood on the helmet part also belonged to that of the accused thus linking him clearly to the crime.

Apart from these the prosecution also informed the court that it had furnished copies of complaints filed by the victim in Maurice Nagar police station between 1994 and 1996 complaining about harassment, molestation and intimidation by the accused Also it had produced copies of apology letter written by the accused promising to not repeat his acts.

More importantly it had produced eyewitnesses who had seen him at victims place half an hour before the murder. It complained that all these vital as well as circumstantial evidences were ignored by the trial court. The court while hearing the arguments of prosecution on Tuesday asked the defence to come up with its argument on Wednesday. The Priyadarshini Mattoo case hearing restarted after a gap of six years.
