It was a close shave for 140 Indian nationals travelling by Air-India flight number AI-200 from Dar-e-salam to Mumbai.

The flight, which was scheduled to leave Nairobi airport for Mumbai late on Monday evening, had to be aborted during take-off because of a technical snag. All passengers on board the A310 aircraft were evacuated immediately.

According to an sms by Sharad Rochlanay, a city businessman who was among the passengers, “The flight was aborted during take-off around 6.45 pm (Nairobi time). We were evacuated and made to wait on the airfield for over two hours before being taken to the airport. After four hours, we were transferred to our hotel rooms.”

According to an A-I official, “The flight was aborted during take-off following detection of engine trouble. This forced the plane to brake at full speed, resulting in a tyre burst. An emergency evacuation was conducted,” he said.

The passengers had been accommodated on a Kenya Airways flight, scheduled to land in Mumbai on Wednesday morning, he said.
