LONDON: A British Airways flight from London's Heathrow airport to Denver, Colorado was diverted to Iceland on Saturday after smoke started pouring from an oven in the aircraft's rear kitchen.

The captain called a mayday alert to be on the safe side and the flight was diverted to Keflavik international airport where it landed safely and all 269 passengers were disembarked.

"There as no security incident. The aircraft is being checked now but will probably stay on the ground overnight," a British Airways spokesman said.

"We will put the passengers up and they can continue their onward journeys tomorrow."
